Hello, I am in the U.S.working on L1B visa for my Co. I heard that H1 is better than L1. Is it possible for me to transfer or change jobs on an L-1 visa? What happens if I get fired or laid off by my employer while working on an L-1 visa? Does it makes any sense moving towards H1.Please, somebody help me to make a decision.

Hello newcomer, I don’t think you can change your job to a different employer when you are on L1 visa. You can be transferred to a different location with the same Company or to an affiliated Company with in the U.S. If you lose your job you will have to either leave U.S. or change your status. If you are on L1 status your spouse is on L2 .She/He can get an EAD and work. If you work on H1, you can change employers in the U.S. but Your spouse cannot work in H4 status.

L1 is much better than H1. L1 A is the best non-immigrant work visa. Under L1, you can apply for G.C with out undergoing the time consuming process for labor certification. If you are married your spouse can work on L2. The L1 does not require a college degree. H1is up to 6 years, L1-A up to 7 years, L1-B up to 5 years. H1B has to meet the definition of a "specialty occupation" and in most cases requires a minimum 4 year U.S. college degree. Well, with the H1B the employer has to pay you the prevailing wage. If he does...that is another question !!!!!!!!!!.The spouse can can not work on H4.
