I am on L1 for last 3 years. If my employer applies for H1B, will that application be part of cap? Do I get additional 6 years.

I believe that application will be part of cap.L1 and H-1B are counted cumulatively. So you will not get additional time by switching. But if you apply for GC, you could get further extensions to H1.
