| Normally when you are changing status USCIS asks for recent pay stubs to make sure that you are still working for your H1B employer. If you are not getting paid , it is very difficult to prove that you are on H1b status. I think , after obtaining the I-20 form from the school where you are intend to study, you should probably leave the country and apply for an F1 from your home country.
